Did you know that articles of impeachment against Dick Cheney have been read twice on the floor of the House of Representatives in the last 8 months, first by Dennis Kucinich then by Robert Wexler? They were broadcast at night on C-Span, but both times not a single American newspaper reported it the next day. Which is the kind of official censorship practiced in the so-called media, which used to mean brave reporters busting open Watergate, but now means extensions of the government, not exactly liberal or conservative (except liberal Hollywood and the barely-disguised pornography that passes for daytime TV.)

The newspapers, at least, are supposed to report important stories in Congress, but when articles of impeachment were delivered against an American Vice President the silence in the media was deafening. Talk of impeachment, whether it actually happens or not, used to be, um, rather significant. I don’t know the mechanism, but the powers that be pass the word down the line that writing about this is not OK. I don’t know, maybe a special Cheney Unit at Blackwater makes sure something goes wrong with your brakes. Practically nothing would surprise me these days.

Because we don’t give up, this barrier has finally been lifted, and the good papers around the country reporting impeachment are the Kansas City Star, the Houston Chronicle, the LA Times, the Baltimore Sun, and the Boston Globe. Also the South Florida Sun Sentinel published an op-ed blasting Wexler’s actions as a waste of time, which is ok. They don’t have to agree with us, just tell us what’s going on.

Still no New York Times, which also owns the Boston Globe via the New York Times Company.

So pick one of these papers to get your national news online, I like this national news link for the Baltimore Sun.

Then bookmark the online version of your local paper for local news, and tell them you are canceling your subscription because they are part of Pravda on impeachment. Part of the official blackout. You save money and don’t have to hit the recycling center so often. But don’t forget to tell them why you are canceling! That’s the whole point!
